Tim is the founder of Atlantic Directors, a Cayman Islands based firm licensed by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, which specialises in the provision of independent directors to the alternative investment industry. Tim has over 30 years of experience in financial markets and has an extensive understanding of the alternative investments industry, specialising in the seeding of hedge funds and capital raising. He formerly was Head of Alternatives at Ignis Asset Management, which he joined in 2008 to build a series of hedge fund joint ventures. Prior to this, he was Managing Director, Head of Absolute Return Strategies at Credit Suisse Asset Management and before that Managing Director and Head of European and Middle East Sales at Deutsche Asset Management’s hedge fund business. He has also held senior roles at UBS Alternative and Quantitative Investments/UBS O’Connor and at HSBC Investment Bank, where he was Global Head of Business Development for Equity Derivatives, Listed Derivatives and Clearing.

Robert Thomas

Robert has 20 years of relevant experience in the offshore financial industry. He was formerly Managing Director of Citco Trustees (Cayman) Limited where he was responsible for Citco’s Caribbean Trust operations including fund governance, unit trusts, real estate investment funds and private trusts. He has served on the board of Citco entities and client structures and as money laundering reporting officer, compliance officer and risk manager. He has also acted as in-house legal counsel for Citco in both Cayman and the British Virgin Islands. He has experience of working with hedge fund managers across a variety of investment strategies and is proactive in ensuring that a comprehensive corporate governance framework is adopted by the fund boards that he sits on. Robert obtained his law degree from Oxford Brookes University in 1994, a Diploma of Legal Practice from The College of Law, Chester in 1995, and an MBA from Imperial College, London in 2014. He is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales (non-practising).

Nathan Day

Nathan has over 20 years’ experience in financial markets with an extensive knowledge of portfolio and risk management derived from managing capital for several global macro focused hedge funds. Prior to joining Atlantic Directors, Nathan was an independent director at ManagementPlus (Cayman), providing professional director services to alternative investment funds. Nathan continues to work with both hedge and PE fund managers across various strategies. In 1996 Nathan joined Manro Haydan, London, a global macro focused fund, heading up their operations team, later becoming an analyst and finally portfolio manager in 2000. For 15 years’ he managed in the region of $150m, specialising in derivatives, FX and equities. In 2010, he joined Marylebone Diversified LLP in London, as partner and senior portfolio manager. In 2012 Nathan moved to the Cayman Islands to build MD Cayman Ltd, a commodity focused hedge fund. Nathan’s deep understanding of risk, portfolio management, valuation and operations is a valuable skill set for any fund board. Nathan is an Accredited Director with ICSA and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business with Economics and Law from Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, graduating in 1996.

Mike Parton

Mike has over 30 years of relevant experience in the offshore financial industry and has worked in three jurisdictions. He has been active as a Cayman-based fund director since 2012. Prior to that, Mike was focused on tailored fund-based solutions for private family offices. He established and managed swap trades and derivative baskets with RBC’s alternatives desk in New York, managing c. $250m in alternative and hedge fund positions as well as leveraged hedge fund trades with Société Générale in Paris; developing strategy matrices, managing correlations, and being involved in all aspects of manager identification, performance evaluation and ODD. He has set up family office fund structures and advised on several private equity investments. From 1994 to 2002 Mike was based in the British Virgin Islands, working in fund and corporate administration where, in 1996 he sat on the advisory board of the Council of Mutual Fund Practitioners to collaborate with the government on implementing the territory’s first fund legislation. Mike trained and qualified as an accountant in the UK with Touche Ross; He has a Masters’ degree in Classics from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

James Wauchope

James practiced Cayman Islands law for 23 years before becoming a professional director in 2016. From 2009 until 2016, James was a partner of Mourant, one of the leading offshore law firms, located in the firm’s Cayman Islands office. He previously practiced with Maples and Calder in the Cayman Islands, another leading offshore law firm, and was a partner in their investment funds group for 9 years. He started his career at Simmons & Simmons in London until he moved to the Cayman Islands in 1993. Before becoming a professional director, James was recognized by the key legal directories as one of the leading private funds lawyers in the Cayman Islands. James read Law at King’s College, University of London and was admitted as an English solicitor in 1988 (currently non-practicing) and as a Cayman Islands attorney-at-law in 1993 (currently non-practicing).

Will Lawton

Will has over 30 years of experience in the financial and commodity markets globally, of which half that time has been spent in Asia. Will has spent recent years in the Wealth Fintech space, building businesses to PE buyout. Will’s most recent Banking role was as Head of Investment Group for HSBC Private Bank in Singapore managing all discretionary, advisory and product services (including Corporate Finance). Will was with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group for 15 years. From 2005 to 2009 he was the Chief Investment Officer for the Private Bank (RBS Coutts) based in Zurich and was a member of the Executive Committee. During Will’s tenure as CIO, he also served as a Board Director of numerous RBS asset management funds registered in the Cayman Islands. Prior roles at RBS included Head of Financial Markets, Singapore; Treasurer of RBS USA and Global Head of Futures and Options based in London. Will moved back to Singapore in 2009 with Standard Chartered Bank as Group Head of Advisory and Solutions for the consumer bank division. Will started his career in London as a commodities (physical and derivatives) trader.
